The Combat B cases are made from surgical-grade 316L stainless steel. We use forged construction to realign the metal grain structure and increase fatigue strength by 37% over a typical cast steel case. This also eliminates voids and porosity in the metal, allowing for the finest possible finishing.
A heat treatment is used to improve the stability of the metal during the forging process and harden the metal surface after finishing.
The bead-blasted finish creates a micro-work-hardened surface that improves scratch and ding resistance by 8 to 10% over brushed or polished finishes. It leaves a flawless, smooth satin finish. We add a physical vapor-deposited anti-fingerprint coating to fill microscopic pores left by the bead blasting. This creates an even smoother surface that resists oily smudges and fingerprints.
The thick, slightly domed, Hytrel-mounted sapphire creates a wider-angle reflection that makes the dial easier to see without harsh glare. Clarity is further enhanced by the military-grade anti-reflective coating applied to the inside of the sapphire.
Silicone-lubricated double Viton gasket seals are used in the crown and tightly sealed threaded caseback to resist saltwater, chemicals, and extremely hot and cold environments. Our sealing system has improved by more than 200% since the original Combat B1. It is tested to exceed our 200-meter depth rating by 30%, ensuring dependable sealing in water and other harsh environments.
The case has lugs that curve downward and wrap around the wrist. The 51.5mm lug-to-lug length may sound long, but much of that length comes from the steep downward curve. The watch wraps around even a small wrist without feeling oversized, wearing more like a watch with an effective lug-to-lug length of 46 to 47mm.
This is one reason the Combat B case is so well-loved by thousands of owners around the world. It is extremely comfortable and barely noticeable on the wrist.
Our anti-shock movement mounting system allows the movement to absorb impacts, helping maintain reliability after an accidental drop or a solid impact against a wall.
Two custom-grade straps are included: one thick charcoal gray nylon strap and one tan leather strap. The nylon strap loops through both spring bars to help prevent the watch from being lost if a spring bar becomes damaged. Our nylon straps are considerably more durable than typical straps of this type. They are designed to be easy to resize and fit nearly any wrist with high comfort and a nearly weightless feel.
The dial is printed with more than 30 layers of top-grade Super-LumiNova over a chemically coated reflective base. This maximizes the dial's performance in dark conditions by directing the luminous output through the front of the watch instead of allowing it to be lost through the back of the dial. Our dials have been tested and verified by RC Tritec in Switzerland as top performers using Super-LumiNova material.
